Slazenger 1sts travelled away to Leeds Met Uni to face off against Leeds Adel Carnegie 3rd’s. The pitch was recently relayed and provide a fast surface, to which Slazenger took to well. Some fast hockey from Slazenger showed intent, with fast darting attacks keeping Carnegie on the defensive.
Man of the match Dan Perry made quick work of the defence, flying down the wing and cutting into the D to shoot on goal. However, the defence was enough to prevent goals early on; an unispiring performance from the Horbury side were unable to capitalise on a weaker opposition. Richard Tuddenham had plenty of chances, but didnt pose a threat to good keeping until the last five minutes. Paul Wiper had a good game at right inner and commanded the attacking midfield. The home team were able to capitalise on some weak marking to find the net twice, however goals from Tuddenham and Wiper (2) secured the win.
Isaac Fisher had another good game with excellent ball skills and distribution. Slaz didn’t inspire and did just enough to win the game. A victory at the halfway point of the league lifts the team into 2nd place in the table.
