Report: 27-11-2011 – Mens 3rd’s (4) vs. (2) Sheffield Uni Bankers

November 27, 2011 by Slazenger HC

Slaz had suffered a dissapointing result the day before, and were looking to make up for it against the Sheffield side.

Even though it was a Sunday afternoon game, it began at pace, with Slaz puuting pressure on the home side straight away. Winger Robin Brearton shows some great skill with individual runs down the win, enthusiasm getting the best of him, barrelling into the opposition and sending them both flying!

As has been the way with recent matches, it was the opposition who scored first. A defensive lapse let Sheffield through, with a slick passing manoeuvre which defeated the keeper.

Slaz were quick to strike back. With mounting pressure on the Sheffield midfield, it was only a matter of time before en equaliser was found. A quick break from Slaz put the home defence under pressure. While the keeper was able to stop the first strike from midfield Jack Mumford, but the rebound was dispatched by Ian Hedges.

A second came in quick succession, a strike from Ste Roberts was deflected by the keeper, only to be collected by Byron Dean and fired though the air, leaving the keeper little chance of stopping it.

Sheffield equalised from an impressive drag flick off of a short corner, which keeper and man of the match Ralph Toon got a touch to, but could not stop.

A powerful strike from Byron Dean drove the ball into the D, deflecting off Ian Hedges’ stick, and through the keepers legs, stepping round the keeper to knock the ball in.

The vicotry was topped off in the final minute, as a short corner was awarded to Slaz. The ball was fed through to Jack Mumford who burried it in the back of the goal.

The game ended 4-2 to Slaz, which lifts them up into 5th place in the league
