Slaz mens 3’s had two league games this weekend. The first of these was against Hull University, where the team were unlucky to come away with a loss.
The team pressed from the off, with some fast passing putting the team well inside the teams half within seconds. Unfortunately the team were unable to convert. This perhaps epitomised the performance after a long journey and late 4pm start. Hull were a quick and skillfull side, who’s passing was able to cut through the Slaz midfield, and at times exposed the back line and keeper Ralph Toon, who put in an exemplary performance.
However, there were moments when the flowing hockey from Slaz showed through, at times catching the home side on the break. Some great running from Robin Brearton on the left wing opened up the midfield, while midfielder Ste Roberts put in another storming performance.
Slaz equalised through a well worked move. The ball was passed up field and crossed to Ian Hedges who carried it wide, shooting from a wide angle between the keepers legs.
The rest of the match was fairly even, Steve Johnson going close for Slaz again, though Hull continued to press on the break. However a poor umpiring decision gave a penalty flick to Hull, which keeper Ralph Toon was unable to stop. Despite further pressure from Sla in the final part of the match, they were unable to equalise.
Slaz travelled to sheffield the following day
