Slazenger mens 3rd’s suffered a 4-1 defeat on Sunday at the hands of Chapeltown 4th’s. The team fought hard, but struggled to repeat the flowing form which had created such high scoring victories of earlier rounds of the cup. However, they were unable to progress past the semi-final stage.
Slaz never seemed to fully get going in the game, though contested well in the first half. Chapeltown struggled to find a hole, with the back line of Mark Kitchen, Alan Perry, and Nathan Crowther keeping the strikers at bay. In return, the home teams strikers pressed hard, although were unable to convert attacking runs into goals.
In the end, it was the persistance of Chapeltown who scored, putting 2 in before the break.
Throughout the second half, Slaz continued to pressure Chapeltown and a well worked move from the centre paid off, Ste Roberts setting up Steve Johnson to knock it pass the goalie. With a goal on the board, and only a goal between the two sides, it looked like Slaz could pull the difference back. For the first 20 minutes of the second half. the momentum was all Slazenger’s way.
However, Chapeltown closed any way in, scoring another 2 to seal the win.
Slazenger return to the league next ween with two games against Hull University and Sheffield Uni Bankers, with 6 points up for grabs.
