Slazenger Ladies 2nds also returned to winning ways, hosting Bingley Bees on Saturday; keeping promotion hopes well within sight. In a quick game of end to end hockey, several periods of sustained pressure from Slaz were enough to seal the win.
Slaz started brightly, with some great passing play from the midfield. Good passing moves and attacking play from Nez Rollinson, Lauren Carruthers put the visitors under pressure early on. Slaz looked to have secured the early lead with a deflection in from Donna Wood, but it was disallowed by the umpire, as their view was blocked by other players!
The first goal came reletively late on in the half, given the fluid play and passing momentum which the Horbury supplied in periods. A passing move through midfield set up Sue Hope to slot the first away.
Slaz were not going to have it all their own way. With minutes left in the first half, Bingley Bees broke, scoring the equaliser.
With 15 minutes left to play, a through ball found Sue Hope who scored her brace and securing the win for the home side.
Slaz soaked up the pressure for the remainder of the game, taking the win and 3 points.
Next week they travel away to Doncaster Independents
