Report: 20-10-2010 – Ladies 1st’s (3) vs. (3) Ben Rhydding 2nd’s

November 20, 2010 by Slazenger HC

First Team Ailish Hendry goal strike

Slazengers started the game well and put pressure on Ben Rhydding from the start, Ailish Hendry capitalised on the pressure with a wonderful reverse strike which the goalkeeper had no chance of saving. The glory was short-lived with Ben Rhydding equalising shortly after.

Slazengers took the lead again with a short corner routine nicely slipped in by Katie Firth, which was perfectly placed in the corner beyond the keepers reach. Ben Rhydding showedequal pressure on Slazengers stretching the players wide, which caused problems on thecounter attacks. A free hit outside the area and a lot of quick passes saw Ben Rhyddingequalise slipping the ball past the Slazenger Keeper Eleanor.

Ten minutes before the end, the home side were awarded a penalty flick when the ball struck the defenders foot on the line. Claire Mills calmly placed the ball in the back of the net to bring the score line to 3 – 2 to Slazengers. The clock was ticking and Slazengers thought that another victory was in sight until a controversial decision by the umpire awarded Ben Rhydding a penalty corner in the dying minutes. The away side capitalised on this and equalised with a messy short corner.
