Wins won’t come any easier in the Ladies Yorkshire Premier Division. Despite fielding a depleted side, Slazenger took the initiative from the off, scoring two early goals from Katie Firth and debutant, Jessica Rudge. The Thirsk team did themselves no favours by self-destructing, going down to 10 players temporarily. During that time, Slaz capitalised by making the score 3 – 0 by half time.
The second half continued in the same vein, with wave after wave of Slazenger attacks. If they could have converted their chances, the score would certainly have been higher. Another Katie Firth strike made it 4 – 0 before the visitors struck back with a well-drilled short corner. Sarah Cooper then added a goal before another Thirsk short corner kept Slazenger on their toes. A well taken, last minute penalty stroke by Claire Mills completed a great day for the Horbury side, who now sit top of the league.
Player of the match went to Andrea Wallace for a masterful midfield display. Tart of the match was Claire Mills, who ran into the umpire!
