Thursday 11th March saw I think our first ever that I can remember anyway, evening league game which was rearranged.
Leeds Uni have now broken the stalemate and sit comfortably at the top of our division and deservedly so with their style of fast flowing and direct play.
However, we had a ‘Dastardly Plan’!
Our last meeting in the Cup at Leeds Uni saw us go down 9 – 1 and we knew that last nights encounter was not going to be easy. All our warriors new what they had to do to compete at the same level as LU and we did brilliantly, winning plaudits from the LU coach and visiting Umpire.
What we didn’t know was that they had a spy in our camp who managed to score 2 of the best goals of the evening. Donna ‘Ginga’ 003.5 slipped into the last line of our defence to an unsuspecting team and scored brilliantly past agent 000.ooo! Lisa GK with a ‘Thunderball’ of a strike not but once, but twice.
007 Katie Firth and M (Lisa M) managed to turn the spy and pointed her in the direction that she should be playing. Accepting that assassination was the teams next plan she duly returned her efforts to the benefit of the home side.
I believe the message of ‘Have some Fun tonight’ as whatever the result it wasn’t going to affect our league position was possibly stretched a little when agent 0013.75 Lou (Goldfinger) decided that the best form of defence was to talk the opposition to death. After nearly succumbing to this torture LU decided to adopt the silent treatment and simply ignored her.
Tactically we managed to move Goldfinger from the defensive trenches to her observation post at the front where she continued her mind torture of wearing the opposition down, even with parental comments ‘ If she stopped rattling as much she might….?’ amusing the ever supportive group of supporters.
We proved yet again that we can adopt different styles of play and with LU actually only scoring 2 goals we have to say the 4 – 0 result was on reflection a job well done. In the eyes of defeat and all that, every player did extremely well. With key players missing in action our 1st XI squad is now showing great resolve and promise for the future.
Our next campaign is against Thirsk on Saturday, lets hope it is our Casino Royale and all our chips come down in our favour. Smile ๐
