Although a good result the score line did not reveal the total dominance Slazenger enjoyed throughout the game. The visitors rarely broke into the Slazenger half in the first 35 mins.
Without exaggeration the first half saw 3 shots on goal cleared off the line with many other attempts narrowingly going wide, the scoreline could easily have been into double figures.
Welcoming back Sarah Cooper after a injury lay-off of several weeks added another dimension to the Slazenger attack. Excellent performances from the mid-field ‘Libero’ player, Ailish Hendry and the dynamique Kerry Rollin at right half only further troubled the Harrogate defence.
Beth Crowther recently coming into the squad showed great promise and resolve and looks to be staking her claim for a rightful place in the squad for the future.
On a day when our defence were rarely troubled, indeed Lisa GK may have been looking for a refund of her match fee as she barely saw the ball never mind touched it, it was encouraging to see another young player at left half Lauren Carruthers, settling down into a position she hopes to make hers for the future.
With comments from Lou ‘I love right wing’ and Hobbsie blisteringly ravaging the right defence of ‘The Gate’ our attack formation was back, ably supported by our utility player Claire Mills and Burger Tossing Hols Tyers, the young side of Harrogate were quite simply…taken apart.
A good performance coming into our last game of the season at home against Leeds 1.30pm push back, will cap an extremely enjoyable end to what has been a very competative league programme.
