First team need a victory
SLAZENGER Mens first eleven continued their poor start to the season recording their 5th defeat in as many games away at fellow strugglers Brigg seconds. Slazengers travelled confident of taking the points despite missing a number of key players due to injury and holiday commitments. Ben Graham should have done better after good work from John Sykes, however as seems to be standard this season, Slazengers found themselves a man short soon after due to an injury to Jez Whawell.
A change of formation to compensate for the injury seemed to confuse Slazengers with a Brigg player able to convert after finding himself on the penalty spot without a defender within 5 yards. The second half was a bitty affair with neither side playing good hockey, Brigg managed to double their lead only for Slazengers to pull one back almost immediately, Paul Wiper with an excellent solo effort. However indiscipline began to creep in and after Wiper saw yellow after a rush of blood to the head, Brigg began to create more chances and grabbed a third shortly before the end. Matt Birkitt and man of the match Andy Fisher did well at centre back for Slazenger, neither in their regular position, and James Walker pulled off some excellent saves in goal.
