Slazenger Ladies 2nd’s expected a hard game against York St John’s and the opposition did not disappoint in an enthralling 2-2 drawn encounter.
In an end to end opening half, Slazenger piled on the pressure in an attempt to secure an early goal, but St John’s had other ideas and continued to deny the home side with solid defending.
In the second half, Chelsea Armitage broke the deadlock after receiving a pinpoint pass from Holly Tyers and with Slazenger knowing they needed to win the match to maintain their promotion challenge they decided to defend their advantage.
But with only ten minutes remaining, the visitors equalised and with Slazenger seeing their promotion hopes slipping, Holly Tyers picked up the ball on half way and attacked the St John’s defence which did not stand a chance, as she bead the ‘keeper and hit the ball home for the winner.
Slazenger ‘keeper Sarah Pollard deservedly won man of the match.
Slazenger 1st’s made the long trip to Scarborough but came away having lost 3-2 and with it probably their chance of promotion too.
