Report: 26-10-2002 – Mens 4th’s (1) vs. (0) Wakefield 4th’s

October 26, 2002 by Slazenger HC

THE fourth string grabbed a last gasp victory over Wakefield with a penalty.

It was a case of lightening striking twice for unlucky Wakefield, who fell foul of a late goal.

John Sykes fired home the spot kick, which had been awarded for a clumsy tackle from behind in the dying stages of the game.

Wakefield had five players out and had to draft people in right up to the last minute

Slazenger had dominated the game for long periods before Syke’s crucial penalty on Saturday afternoon.
