Report: 02-03-2002 – Mens 1st’s (1) vs (1) Tynemouth 1st’s

March 2, 2002 by Slazenger HC

Mixed emotions were the order of the day for Slazenger after their tough trip to higher placed North East Division 2 outfit Tynemouth.

Slazenger should have been happy with the away point, but on reflection they felt they could have won the game.

Indeed, Slazenger could have been two up very early in the first half but were thwarted by an outstanding goalkeeper.

And against the run of play Tynemouth took the lead, playing on as Slazenger players stood around waiting for the umpire to blow a foul that never materialised.

Slazenger pressure eventually led to Kev Windler making a sensational solo run and firing the bar into the top corner for the Tynemouth were on the back foot.

Lawrence Thornton made some great runs up front on his debut while Mike Shaw and Mark Swallow mopped up at the back.

But Slazenger’s dominance in possession lacked goals and the visitors had to settle for a point.

However, the performance sets them up nicely for the visit to Norton on Saturday, push back 1:30pm.
