Spirited Slazenger thirds lost out by the odd goal in five to hosts Ben Rhydding fourths.
And the margin of defeat might have been more had it not been for the heroics of goalkeeper Jonny Walker.
Slazenger managed to restrict Ben Rhydding to just 1-0 by half-time and equalised early in the second half through Martin Lofthouse.
The home side took a two-goal advantage, however, in response to which Slazenger could muster only the one goal in reply scored by Richard Whawell off a rebound from Gavin Kaye’s initial shot.
Slazenger thirds entertain Normanby Park seconds on Saturday, push back 3pm.
