Slazenger enhanced their credentials as Yorkshire League Division 2 front runners by overcoming a dogged Roundwood side 3-1 – but they were far from convincing.

The hosts took an early lead but then proceeded to lose their way – until a flash of brilliance from man of the match Jonny Wiper put them 2-0 up.

Slazenger began to get sloppy once more and conceded a soft goal and a penalty flick, only for it to be expertly saved by Dave Hellam.

Later on in the game, Gilston secured an uninspiring home win with Slazenger’s third goal.

On Saturday, Slazenger entertain Sheffield 3rds, kick-off 3pm.

Slazenger mens first powered to a 3-0 win over Roundwood on Saturday.

Roundwood have provided formidable opposition in previous years but Slazenger were on top for much of this game and drilled home their advantage with goals scored on a regular basis.

Scorers were David Kaye, Mark Butel and Simon Chamberlain. Tireless midfielder Will Buckley was the man of the match.
