Newsletter No 2 – October 2011

October 18, 2011 by Slazenger HC

Well, October is here and almost a month of the season has gone already! So here is a roundup of news and goings on at your club from the last month….

Halloween!

As mentioned last month (and hopefully confirmed by captains and coaches…), the first social of the season is nearly upon us. The “Frightfully Good” Fancy Dress Halloween social will be on Saturday 29th October, for both Junior and Senior Sections. Tickets are £5 for Seniors. Juniors ; £1 without food, £2.50 with food. Full details are avaliable on the website. Seniors can get their tickets from Mat, Hayley or over the bar. Juniors should speak to a member of their junior committee.

Registration

For those who have not registered, or paid subs yet, time is running out! At the end of October, our motley band of Captains and coaches will be unleashed to round up any outstanding players. Be warned – they bite! Save yourself, and REGISTER ONLINE now!

Please remember that for anyone setting up a standing order, the deadline for the first payment is Monday 31st October 2011. Any payments after this must be the total amount.

Too Good To Go (2G2G)

The Junior Committee have got the equipment recycling scheme up and running. Now that its a few weeks into the season, they are looking for any kit which is no longer needed, outgrown or replaced, but would be useful to another player. If you have any clothing/equipment, please contact Sarah Jane Ritchey at sarahjaneritchey@googlemail.com, or speak to a member of the committee. Equipment can be dropped off at any training sessions during the week.

A full catalogue of kit is avaliable online at this web address. Anyone interested in anything listed should also speak to Sarah, or a Junior committee member at the above address.

Goalkeeper Training!

For all those budding Goalies and anyone interested in taking up the fine art, the junior section is running a seperate training session the first Sunday of every month between 12 noon and 1pm. This training takes place after the regular junior training session.

The junior section are looking for players of any age, interested in trying out as keepers. Speak to a member of the committee for more information. Slazengers will provide the keepers kit, so don’t worry about not having the right gear!

The mens section are looking for another keeper – So if a player is interested, or you know someone who wants to get involved, speak to a mens team captain.

Committee Meetings

As you may know, the club is run by a committee made up of representatives from all sections. The monthly committee meetings are open to all of the club, whether you have an issue to raise, or just want to see what happens. The next meeting is onTuesday 1st November at 7.30pm in the clubhouse. All are welcome to attend.

Grow Your Own / Yorkshire Hockey Northern Challenger Event
In preperation for the new season, Slaz had a busy weekend, hosting the Northern Challenger Event, AND holding its first England Hockey Grow Your Own events. There is full a report here…

Season Underway!
Its a month into the season, and there have been some great results across the board, though its the Mens 1’s who are sitting pretty at the top of the league with 3 wins from 3. The mens seconds have had mixed fortunes, however the 3rd’s are into the second round of the cup after their 3-0 win at Harrogate. Finally, the development section continues to put in some strong performances, especially in their 5-1 defeat of Huddersfield last weekend. The ladies section has also had some great success. While the 1st’s have had a steady start, the 2nd’s sit at the top of Division 4, with a draw and two wins, including their 8-0 defeat of Huddersfield. The 3’s have also been playing some great hockey placing them mid table. The junior leagues have only just begun, with few matches played. However the Boys U10’s have already secured promotion in their first round!!

Mens 1st’s vs; Wakefield 3rd’s (win), Brigg 2nd’s (win), Chapeltown 2nd’s (win).

Mens 2nd’s vs; Doncaster 6th’s (win), Leeds 5th’s (loss).

Mens 3rd’s vs; Normanby Park 2nd’s (draw), Harrogate 5th’s (win).

Mens 4th’s vs; Bradford Dev. (draw), city of York 10th’s (win), Doncaster Dev. (loss), Huddersfield Dev (win).

Ladies 1st’s vs; NO MATCH REPORTS.

Ladies 2nd’s vs; Huddersfield (win).

Slazenger Summer Solstace Tournament

December 8, 2010 by Slazenger HC

It may seem like a long time off, but this summer, Slazenger is planning to rerun the Summer Solstace tournament after a 10 year absence. When it last ran, it was a sevens tournament, with teams from the local area and further afield playing over 2 days. It was a weekend of great competitive hockey and socialising, with approximately 10 mens and 10 ladies teams playing for the title of tournament champs.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone who was involved with the last event, or competed in one of the teams could contact contact Geoff Birkett at geoff@birkettsmanagement.co.uk. Alternatively grab Alan Perry, Hayley Wood, or Ian Hedges if your a Slaz native 🙂
