Report: 13-03-2011 – Boys U12’s

March 13, 2011 by Slazenger HC

SLAZ FIGHT BACK TO SECURE PROMOTION
Slazenger’s U12 entered their last tournament after a mixed season that has seen them move onto the C pitch of the Yorkshire league. The team were confident that skills worked on in training could be put to good use. In the end, a strong performance will promote the team back to the ‘B’ pitch next year.

Slazenger Boys U12 (1) vs. (0) Bingley Bees
In their first game against Bingley the team were a bit at sixes and sevens getting late onto the pitch as the game was about to start. After a frantic first few minutes the boys got into their stride with Nick Caldersly and Ryan Denton working well on the right. Pressure in the opponents half led to a short corner for Slazenger’s. Nick was fed the ball from Harry Gunning and confidently scored. Slazenger 1 – 0 Bingley Bees

Slazenger Boys U12 (2) vs. (0) Kirklees
Almost immediately Slazenger’s were back on the pitch to play Kirklees (Huddersfield Dragons). The boys played confidently and played well with Nick Caldersly again and Elliot Kaye taking their chances and scoring quickly. A scare at the back with a counter attack saw keeper Daniel Alderson work hard keeping out a consolation goal and being equal to any challenge on his goal. Slazenger 2 – 0 Kirklees

Slazenger Boys U12 (0) vs. (1) Doncaster
A third game against a well organised Doncaster side saw both teams attack and defend equally well. Late in the game Doncaster attacked down the wing and although tackled by Ben Stevenson the Doncaster winger got a cross away. Ryan Denton whose defending is always dependable scuffed a clearance and caused an uncharacteristic own goal as the ball sliced in the wrong direction. The whistle blew before any further response could be made. Slazenger 0 – 1 Doncaster

Slazenger Boys U12 (1) vs. (0) Harrogate
Keen to make up for an unfortunate mistake the U12 boys attacked Harrogate in numbers in their fourth game. Ethan Peel ran the length of the pitch and pounced on a clearance from the Harrogate keeper. He shot low and scored. Slazenger 1 – 0 Harrogate

Slazenger Boys U12 (1) vs. (1) Ben Rhydding
The final game against Ben Rhydding had the boys fired up as they are traditionally a strong hockey side. Changing formation saw Harry Gunning move to centre forward and Jacob Dennison move onto the left wing. Slaz again attacked in numbers and defended equally well. A counter attack from a lost ball saw Ben Rhydding move swiftly down the left wing and slot home what they thought was the winner, but grim determination and confidence from other games saw Slazenger attacking again without fear. Ben Rhydding saw their own short corner stolen off them by Harry Gunning at the top of the D who he ran a full pitch length run around three defenders and even though Nick Caldersly and Elliot Kaye called for the ball Harry rifled the shot and beat the keeper coolly in the final minute to force a draw. Slazenger 1 – 1 Ben Rhydding.

Report: 28-10-2007 – Boys U10’s

October 28, 2007 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger Boys U10’s continued their unbeaten start to the Yorkshire Youth Hockey Association’s six-a-side competition with four more wins from games played at Outwood Grange College on Sunday.

William Copley broke the deadlock for a 1-0 first game win over Bradford.

Three goals from Aidan Hopkinson, two from Copley and one from Isaac Fisher secured a comfortable 6-1 win over Doncaster – the only team to have scored against Slazenger A this season.

Rotherham defended well to restrict Slazenger to two goals from Ben Dransfield and Hopkinson.

Chapeltown had no answer to Slazenger’s relentless attack, conceding seven goals without reply. Scorers were Jordan Pickles (4), Olivia Jackson (2) and Hopkinson, his fifth of the day to finish top of the scorers’ table.

The B team enjoyed a clean sweep of results over opposition from Wakefield, Kirklees and Sheffield Hallam.

Report: 15-10-2006 – Boys U14

October 15, 2006 by Slazenger HC

There were mixed results for Slazengers U14 Boys as they started their new campaign in nervous fashion with a number of new players in the starting line-up.

Slazengers got off to a disappointing start as they fell 4-0 to Sheffield in the opening match despite the best efforts of Scott Fisher, Thomas Kent and Jack Taylor in defence.

A Jake Barras strike was enough to give Slazengers victory in a 1-0 victory over Kirkless in the second match.

The final match against an experienced Ben Rhydding side was their toughest of the tournament as they fell to a harsh 10-0 defeat despite the best efforts of Adam Davis in goal.

Report: 15-10-2006 – Girls U10’s

October 15, 2006 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger U10s Girls A made a good start to their season with two wins from five in the first tournament of the new campaign.

The team got off to a bright start as Elvie Johnstone scored the winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Ben Rhydding in the opening match.

Slazenger picked up their second win with a 4-0 victory over York B.

Ellie Spruce scored her first ever hat-trick while Chloe Bates completed the scoring and Catreena Ferguson and Dearbhla O’Connell impressed in defence. The team suffered close-fought defeats against Harrogate, Kirklees and York A.

Slazenger U10 Girls B made a respectable start to the season as they picked up a win, two draws and three defeats against more experienced opposition.

Kristina Hall-Jackson lead the way in the scoring stakes with three fantastic goals against Driffield while new members Phillipa Lister and Eleanor Westwood made promising debuts for the team.

Olivia Jackson was impressive in defence alongside Emily Paton who made her debut as a sweeper while Millie Crowther performed well in several different positions.

Report: 26-03-2006 – Boys U10 Tournamenrt

March 26, 2006 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger U10s Boys played their last tournament of the season at Huntingdon and despite some disappointing results, they showed great progress.

With no chance of silverware this season, Slazenger gave boys who will still be young enough to play next season a run out.

The best result was an opening 0-0 draw with York B with Alex Byram and Isaac Fisher attacking well.

Defeats to Halifax, Bradford, Doncaster and Kirklees followed but despite this they defended well and showed great potential.

Report: 19-03-2006 – Girls U10 Tournament

March 19, 2006 by Slazenger HC

SLAZENGER U10 girls endured mixed fortunes as they signed off in their last tournament of the season at York.

In their opener, the girls made a polished start by sinking York B 2-0, thanks to goals from the impressive Sophie Williams and Rebecca Jessop.

A late breakaway goal put paid to their hopes against Ben Rhydding, who triumphed 1-0, before a strong A York side and eventual league winners came up trumps 4-0.

Slaz put on a good show in their final two games, drawing 1-1 with Harrogate and Kirklees, with Olivia Jackson, Sophie McGhie, Elinor Jackson and Ellie Spruce prominent.

Report: 10-12-2005 – U12 Tournament at Leeds

December 10, 2005 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger gained three victories from their five matches in a Boys U12s hockey tournament at Leeds on Sunday.

Despite having the majority of possession in the opening game against York B, Slazengers failed to cash in but Isaac Fisher cooly scored after excellent work by man of the tournament Jack Kitchen, who beat three defenders before putting in a telling pass, to win 1-0.

A goal down within 30 seconds against Bradford, Slazengers never recovered and lost 6-0, the margin being kept down by solid goalkeeping from birthday boy Adam Davis.

Slazengers were more enthusiastic against Bingley, despite falling 3-1 victims, Jake Barras reducing the arrears.

Jenson Brook made some telling breaks from midfield and Thomas Kent was particularly strong with impeccably timed tackles to enable Slazengers to gain a 1-0 success over Kirklees, Jake Barras scoring.

The final match against Halifax was even until a moment of sublime skill, in which Daniel Perry beat half of the opposition before slotting in a long range effort.

Jake Barras improved the lead before Tom Logan, newly promoted from the U10s, was poleaxed by a vicious high ball which caught him on the thigh, but it did not deter Slazengers who managed another strike by Joe Dransfield to gain a 3-0 success.

Report: 30-10-2005 – Boys U10 at Huntington

October 30, 2005 by Slazenger HC

Barrass boost for Slaz’

SLAZENGER U10s had a mixed bag of results at the Huntington tournament near York at the weekend.

Their first opponents Rotherham started strongly, but Ralph Toon kept their attackers at bay with some excellent defensive play until halfway through the encounter when they took a decisive lead.

In the second game, Driffield raced into a 2-0 lead, but the timely introduction of sub Daniel Perry changed things.

He soon found the back of the net and from then on, it was one-way traffic with Slaz rewarded with an equaliser off the stick of Jake Barras.

The third game against Chapeltown proved to be a scrappy affair, with the Sheffield side claiming a fortunate 2-0 success.

Slaz eased past Ben Rhydding C 3-0, with a hat-trick from hero Barras.

A flurry of substitutions proved to be Slaz’s downfall in their final game as they were crushed 6-0 by a rampant Kirklees outfit.
