Match Report
Slazenger 4s made the trip to face Sheffield Bankers 6, knowing a fast start would be crucial on a tricky surface. Unfortunately, it was the hosts who came flying out of the blocks. Sheffield struck in just the 3rd minute from a well-worked short corner. A sharp injection and clean strike from the top of the D leaving the Slazenger keeper with little chance and putting the home side 1–0 up before Slazenger had settled.
To their credit, Slazenger responded well. The midfield began to link play effectively, with patient passing down the right creating early half-chances. The defence tightened up after the early setback, cutting out Sheffield’s aerial balls and stepping strongly into tackles. Despite the improved control, Sheffield doubled their lead in the 20th minute. A turnover in midfield allowed the Bankers to counter quickly, and a neat move through the centre was finished calmly from open play to make it 2–0.
Rather than letting heads drop, Slazenger showed real character. Just five minutes later, they pulled a goal back. Sustained pressure forced errors in the Sheffield circle, and after a scramble in front of goal, a composed finish from close range found the backboard in the 25th minute. At 2–1, Slazenger were right back in it.
The remainder of the half saw Slazenger push hard for an equaliser, winning territory and moving the ball with increasing confidence. Although further chances didn’t quite convert, the response after conceding twice was full of fight and determination. Despite the early setback and Sheffield’s clinical finishing, Slazenger can take positives from the resilience shown and the quality of their attacking play. With that spirit, there’s plenty to build on for the next fixture.
Match Report
Slazenger 4s made the trip to Chesterfield looking to build momentum, but faced a tough challenge against an organised Chesterfield 4s side who proved clinical in front of goal. The hosts started brightly and took the lead in the early on, capitalising on sustained pressure to find the back of the net from open play. Chesterfield continued to press and doubled their advantage again finishing neatly after working the ball through the Slazenger defence.
Slazenger responded well and began to settle into the game, moving the ball with more confidence through midfield. Their persistence paid off in the 28th minute, when a well-worked move resulted in a Slazenger forward finding space in the circle and slotting home to pull one back. However, the momentum was short-lived as Chesterfield struck again before halftime , restoring their two-goal cushion. Just after halftime the home side added another in the 40th minute, leaving Slazenger with a mountain to climb going after the break.
The second half saw Slazenger trying to push higher up the pitch in search of a way back into the game, but Chesterfield were able to punish the gaps left behind, adding their fifth goal in the 50th minute.
To their credit, Slazenger continued to battle and refused to let their heads drop. Their efforts were rewarded late on when they grabbed a second goal in the 70th minute, finishing off a positive attacking move to give the travelling side something to build on. Despite the final score line not going Slazenger's’ way, the team showed resilience throughout and will take the positives from their attacking play and determination as they look ahead to their next fixture.
Match Report
Slazenger 4s produced a clinical second-half performance to secure an impressive away victory over Huddersfield Dragons 4s, with John Sykes the standout performer after scoring a superb hat-trick.
The first half was closely contested, with both sides battling hard for control in midfield. Huddersfield Dragons looked to take advantage of home turf, pressing forward and trying to build attacks through the middle, but the Slazenger defence remained well organised and disciplined. At the other end, Slazenger created a few promising opportunities on the break but were unable to convert before the interval. As a result, the teams went into half-time with the score 0–0.
Slazenger came out strongly after the break and wasted little time making their mark. In the 41st minute, Sykes found space in the circle and finished confidently to break the deadlock and give the visitors the lead.
The goal lifted Slazenger, who began to control possession and push Huddersfield back. In the 51st minute, Sykes struck again, finishing a well-worked move to double Slazenger's advantage.
Just a minute later, Sykes completed a memorable hat-trick in the 52nd minute with a spectacular finish. Picking up the ball out wide, he unleashed a powerful strike from range on a tight angle, catching the defence and goalkeeper off guard as the ball flew into the net.
With Slazenger now firmly in control, they continued to apply pressure and were rewarded again in the 62nd minute. The Slazenger captain added a fourth goal, finishing well after sustained attacking play in the Huddersfield circle to put the result beyond doubt.
Huddersfield Dragons continued to battle until the final whistle, but Slazenger remained solid defensively to secure a well-earned clean sheet.
A dominant second-half display, highlighted by John Sykes’ outstanding hat-trick, ensured Slazenger 4s returned home with a convincing and thoroughly deserved victory.
