Men’s 1st’s (0) vs. (3) Rotherham 1st’s
The men’s 1st’s hosted Rotherham for an end to end encounter, which ultimately saw Rotherham take the points. Slaz shared possession, but it was Rotherham who were more clinical in the face of goal. At the other end, the Rotherham keeper kept the visitors in the match and ultimately gave them the points. Slazenger travel to Chesterfield, looking to get back to winning ways.
Men’s 2nd’s (4) vs. (0) Lindum 4th’s
Slaz hosted a travelling Lindum 4th’s side for a tough battle at Southfields, with Slaz eventually coming out on top. The first half saw Slaz struggle to get going, with sloppy passing and poor ball pace. Lindum were able to create pressure, and make life hard for Slaz. As the half went on, the home side worked their way into the game; James Swinden finding a pass to Richard Tuddenham to go 1-0 up. Jack Sumner was in the right place at the back post to slot away a second to put the team in control at halftime.
The second half was more in Slazenger’s favour. With more fluid passing and movement, the team controlled the game better, with Tuddenham netting 2 more before the half was out. James Walker put in a fantastic performance in net, with a series of saves which earned him his clean sheet. Slaz move back to 3rd, with their first away fixture at Chesterfield to look forward to.
Men’s 3rd’s (0) vs. (5) Tadcaster Magnets 1st’s
The 3rds travelled to Tadcaster Magnets, but were unable to find their recent winning form, with a 5-0 reversal.
Men ‘s 4th’s (2) vs. (5) Leeds 7th’s
A disappointing result for the men’s 4s who hosted Leeds 7s this weekend as we lost 5-2. A very even first half saw chances at both ends with both sides making attempts on each others goals but an overall poor performance from Slazenger’s saw us concede far too many chances ultimately seeing us go a goal behind after fifteen minutes. A well worked move however did see us manage an equaliser shortly after to restore parity for a short time but a second Leeds goal put us behind once again. Despite the teams general performance a stellar goalkeeping performance kept us in the game until half time. The second half continued the same as the first with leeds extending their lead to 3-1 minutes into the half. Slazenger’s 4s still had some fight in us and won an penalty flick which was slotted in as the leeds keeper went the wrong way. What fight we had was stomped out as Leeds continued to push and extended their lead to four and then shortly after five. We fought to the end but were unable to claw anything back. Final score 5-2 to the visitors.
Ladies 1st’s (5) vs. (0) Leeds
This evening saw us play under the lights at Weetwood.
Slazengers started strong, moving the ball with confidence and precision around the back, thanks to the accuracy and power from Marissa, Imo, Rebecca, Eliz and Bella. A powerful pass from Hannah was expertly trapped by Rudgey, who skilfully took the ball around a defender before unleashing a strong open-stick shot into the back of the net, giving Slazengers an early lead.
The defense was rock-solid, putting in strong tackles to prevent Leeds from breaking into the D. When Millie subbed on, she made an instant impact, pressing the Leeds defense and winning possession back. Up front, Mollie displayed her silky skills, effortlessly weaving through defenders.
Sustained attacking pressure earned Slazengers a free hit, which Hannah stepped up to take. Her precise strike found the back of the goal, doubling the lead to 2-0 before the break.
Slazengers came out firing again in the second half, with the forwards applying relentless pressure to regain possession, although early chances went unconverted. The team won several short corners, injected expertly by Amelia. Frankie capitalized on one, sweeping a well-timed strike into the bottom corner before celebrating with a proud bow.
The momentum stayed with Slazengers as they won another short corner. Rudgey’s initial shot was saved, but Mollie reacted quickly on the rebound to slot home another goal. The junior players stepped up impressively, showing excellent channeling down the wings and well-timed tackles.
Slazengers sealed the dominant performance with another short corner, executed perfectly as Mollie found the net once again. Despite some heavy tackles flying in, captain Hannah remained composed, leading by example.
Player of the Match (Joint): Mollie & Marissa
A fantastic all-round performance from Slazengers, with strong defensive work, clinical finishing, and impressive contributions from the whole squad.
An honourable mention to our defensive team, especially the juniors, who are growing in confidence game by game. You guys are awesome. Saturday sees us traveling to Harrogate. Fingers crossed it’s another 3 points
Ladies 1st’s (0) vs. (3) Harrogate 2nd’s
Harrogate came out strong from the first whistle, pressing high and making it difficult for Slazengers to link up passes to their forwards. Despite the early pressure, Hannah worked tirelessly in midfield, supported by Zoe and Frankie, as they fought to drive the team forward.
Slazengers’ defense put in a serious shift to keep up with Harrogate’s fast-paced attack, but the pressure eventually told, and the visitors broke the deadlock with a well-placed goal.
Slazengers struggled with consistency, with mistakes allowing Harrogate to dominate possession. However, there were flashes of strong play, particularly in the distribution from the back, setting up attacking chances.
At half-time, the score stood at 1-0, and Slazengers regrouped, determined to fight back. They started the second half with renewed energy, but Harrogate struck again early, doubling their lead. Despite this setback, Slazengers kept creating chances—Rudgey rattled the crossbar, and Mollie was agonizingly close after hitting the post.
The team continued to battle, but Harrogate delivered the final blow with a scrappy goal; a loose ball in the D trickling over the line to make it 3-0.
A frustrating game was capped off with a bit of drama towards the end of the game where Hannah earned a green card— a result of one of Harrogate’s players calling her a stupid dickhead.
A tough match, but Slazengers showed resilience and moments of promise despite the scoreline.
Hopefully a home game will work in our favor when we face Chesterfield next week. Time to regroup and reenergize
Ladies 2nd’s (2) vs (0) Halifax 2nd’s
The ladies 2nd’s travelled to Halifax for this week’s fixture. Goals came from Maisie Davies and Nicci Swinden.
Ladies 3rd’s (6) vs. (1) Batley 1st’s
Slazengers 3’s claimed a dominant 6-1 win over Batley in what was expected to be a closely contested match, with both teams sitting evenly on the league table. The earlier fixture had ended in a 0-0 draw, setting the stage for another hard-fought battle, but Slazengers made sure this one wasn’t as tight.
The match began with a bang, as Player of the Match Evie Mollart wasted no time getting on the scoresheet. Within the opening minutes, she netted two goals from well-executed penalty corners, putting Slazengers in a commanding position early. The pressure kept mounting on Batley, and Caro Schofield took full advantage of a goalmouth scramble to slip in the third.
Batley managed to respond with a goal of their own, courtesy of a short corner, but the visitors were never able to threaten a comeback. Keeper Lauren Hattesley had a number of key saves, showcasing her incredible reflexes which kept Slazengers firmly in control.
Slazengers were quick to regain their three-goal advantage before half-time. Ellie Page, known for her impressive crosses, sent a perfectly timed ball across the goalmouth, which Natalie Beech latched onto and expertly converted to make it 4-1 at the break.
The second half saw Slazengers continue to dominate, with their relentless attacking pressure. Page once again sending a dangerous ball from the right-hand side, which Mollart calmly slotted home for her hat-trick.
The final goal came through a brilliant team move. Donna Slack launched a long ball from defence to centre midfielder Erin Kelly, who laid the ball off to Schofield. The striker charged through on goal, leaving the Batley keeper no chance as she blasted it home to seal the 6-1 victory.
Ladies 4th’s (1) vs. (9) City of York 6th’s
The 4th team lost 9-1 against City of York. Slazenger’s goal came from Gemma Wroe.

Girls U10’s A Team Tournament
The U10 girls were playing in Division 2 at Wakefield today, and came away undefeated. It was a really positive day for the girls as we come away unbeaten.
Slaz v Huddersfield – The first game was against Huddersfield, and we started strongly, going into a quick 2-0 lead, with both goals coming from Darcie. We continued to dominate throughout the game, with excellent play from Penny, Maia and Ella driving the team forward. This hard work lead to a 3rd goal, a cross from Penny finding Maia at the back post and she scored her first ever tournament goal. Frances, Bridgette and Maddison had very little to do, although when called into action, they dealt with it superbly. Another drive from Ella, lead to the ball finding its way to Darcie, who scored her 3rd of the game, to make it 4-0. Maci and Izzy then came on and worked tirelessly, which lead to goal number 5, and Maci’s first ever goal, slotting in from close range.
Slaz v Ben Rhydding – This was a far tighter game than the first game, with Maddison and Bridgette needing to stay focussed to stop any Ben Rhydding attack. That said, Ben Rhydding took the lead from a quick break leading to a goal mouth scramble and the ball ending in the back of our net, with nothing Frances could do to stop it. We then stepped it up a gear with Penny and Maia working hard on the wings and Darcie causing problems to the Ben Rhydding defence. With time running out, a quick ball into the D found Ella, who slotted the ball away to make it 1-1. Maci and Izzy came on again although they could not influence a winning goal.
Slaz v Barnsley – We went into this game without Ella, who had to leave for other commitments, and also Darcie who was unwell. This gave Izzy and Maci the chance to start and they both worked really hard in midfield and attack. The game was end to end, with both defences having to work extremely hard to game the game at 0-0, which the game ultimately ended. Big shout out to Frances for making some top saves and intelligent clearances, as well as Maddison for been a rock in defence.
Slaz v Hull – We went into this last game pushing to finish on a high, but we could not get the goal we had worked hard to get. We were then lucky not to concede in the last few seconds of the game and it ended 0-0.
Player of the tournament went to Izzy for her effort and hard work throughout the tournament. Even after sustaining a knee injury, she carried on and gave all for the team. Well done Izzy! Special thanks to Mark for coaching and umpiring, and Rob and Will for their coaching assistance.

The start of the second quarter saw a very poor decision and the opposition equalised. The girls pulled together quickly and Ruth’s determination put them 2-1 up. The third quarter saw the team settle together with yet more attacking performances. A penalty flick taken by Amelia secured a 3-1 lead.
The final quarter really showed the team were not going to settle and they relentlessly pushed forward and allowed Alys the opportunity to successfully score. Boys U16’s (4) vs. (0) City of York
Sunday saw the boys U16 team only playing their second game of the season against City of York B. It was a wet and blustery start to the game but Slaz started strong with great pressure from the midfielders; Seth, Owen, Chris and Ollie.
The hard work was rewarded with an early goal from Ollie (5’) which settled the nerves. This was quickly followed by a goal from Chris (8’) who calmly put it a rebound passed the keeper. Slaz continued to create further changes through Aleks, Fin and Jack T but were unable to add to the score line.
The second half was a similar story; some great defence by George G, Jack S, Harry C, Harry F and Isaac saw many attacks stopped short of the D. On the odd occasion he was called upon George, the goalkeeper, was there to keep a clean sheet in his first game for Slazenger. Slaz got more into their stride during the second half and started to win the balls in the midfield, and with quick counterattacks chances were created up front by Aleks, Fin and Ollie. The third score came from great passing and a cool finish from Aleks (40’) to take it round the keeper. Many more changes were created but Slaz just couldn’t find the net. It wasn’t till Owen (54’) was able to score from a short corner which saw the win secured at 0-4.
It was great to see the boys finally play together again this season, after all their hard work in training with Tuddy & Aidan. Many of the boys are now playing regular Saturday hockey and attend Men’s training. The support from captains and senior players has been a great addition to the boys development.
