As we’re returning to the pitch, we wanted to take a moment to refresh everyone on the kit we need to protect ourselves on the pitch. Please take a couple of minutes to read and a moment to check your kit before you get back on the pitch! This information will be permanently available in the “About” information on the website, here.
FACE MASKS
It is the policy of Slazenger Hockey Club, that any junior (under the age of 18) defending a penalty corner must do so wearing a face mask. In all Junior matches (Sundays) and Development team fixtures. While masks can be provided by the club, we advise that these are purchased so players have their own available to wear. If a junior member plays senior hockey and a mask is not available then they will not be allowed to defend the corner.
Senior players defending penalty corners are encouraged to wear a face mask, however it is up to the individual whether or not they choose do so.
MOUTH GUARDS
It is the policy of Slazenger Hockey Club that any junior player (U18) must wear a gum shield during all training and matches. If a junior attends training or a match without these items, they will not be allowed to participate.
SHIN PADS
Shin pads are mandatory for all training and matches at all age groups.
GLOVES
There are no mandatory requirements for wearing gloves. However, at older age groups, a left handed glove should be considered, as it protects the hand which is most likely to be low to the ground when tackling, and therefore most likely to be caught by a hockey stick. Right hand gloves can also be purchased for extra protection.
