Men’s 1st’s (5) vs. (1) Harrogate 2nd’s
In an exhilarating performance on Saturday, Slazenger Hockey Club triumphed in their home match against Harrogate Hockey Club, finishing with an impressive 5-1 victory. Displaying precise control and offensive prowess, Slazenger set about dismantling the Harrogate HC defence. The home team struck their initial goal minutes into the match, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Precision passes, effective teamwork, and tactical executions led to four more well-capitalised opportunities to bring the free-scoring tally to five.
Despite being under pressure for most of the match, Harrogate did manage to ripple the net once, denying a clean sheet for the home team. However, a resilient Slazenger defence largely denied them the final third, keeping Harrogate’s scoring chances limited. Looking ahead, Slazenger will hope to carry this momentum forward, and Harrogate will look to regroup and come back stronger in their next outing. Goals from Tommy Randle, Danny Perry (2) & Mark Swinden (2)

The men’s 4s visited Wakefield this week looking for their first win of the season. Availability forced the 4s to travel with just 11 men however they were able to assert dominance on the game with early chances being created. The deadlock was broken after 20 minutes as Richard smuggled the ball into the goal to put the 4s ahead. The first half ended 1-0 to the visitors. The Slazenger back line was yet to experience a serious threat allowing the team to keep pressure on and earn a number of short corners. A second goal was hammered in by Jonny after a corner midway through the second half giving the 4s a comfortable grip on the game. As the closing minutes approached Wakefield managed to pull a goal back from a deflected corner but it was too late as the final whistle ended the game 2-1 to the 4s. from Richard C and Jonny Meeson

Ladies 1st’s (4) vs. (3) Leeds 4th’s
Ladies 1st’s enjoyed a 4-3 win at home against Leeds 4th’s. Goals from Hannah Field, Lou Haigh (2) & Emma Williams.
Ladies 2nd’s (0) vs. (10) Lindum 2nd’s
Today slaz travelled all the way to play Lindum. With one man down before we even set off, we were left with only one sub and a tough game ahead. Seconds into the first half, Donna took a ball to the head, which took her out of the game and Slaz were now down to 11. As ever, Slaz was asleep to begin with, allowing Lindum to dominate. Despite the best effort of the defence to battle with the opposition, this didn’t stop 7 goals being slotted into the net in the first half. Not letting our heads get down, we managed to have a few breaks and some great channel running, though we were held off by Lindum.
Slaz weren’t defeated, though very tired, we came back stronger in the second half, determined not to repeat what happened in the first half. Great work from defence, mids and to the attackers, Slaz started to work together. Upfront we were making great runs, calls and providing Slaz opportunities. We gained a short corner, however, couldn’t convert it into anything. This was then followed by a few defensive short corners, but Slaz defence held off any attempts. Despite efforts, Lindum succeeded with a few quick breaks, scoring a further two goals. Towards the end, sadly we lost another player to double cramp, who could not continue. Now down to 10 players, Slaz put up a fight and gave everything we could to prevent further goals. In the dying minutes, Lindum was awarded another short corner and managed to slot a final goal into our net. Final Score 10-0. Certainly a game of 2 halves. We may not have won the match, but we certainly won most improved.
Ladies 3rd’s (10) vs. (0) University of Leeds 7th’s
Slaz ladies 3’s continued their unbeaten run to Leeds this week with a convincing 10 – 0 win. Slaz put pressure on the opposition from push off, moving the ball around the pitch and firing the crosses into the D. whilst Slaz initially struggled to convert Gemna S finally put an end to this with a shot hitting the backboard. Maisie then netted a spectacular goal in the top right corner that no goal keeper could save. The score at half time 2-.0.

Ladies 4th’s (1) vs. (1) Wakefield 5th’s
The Ladies 4th Team played Wakefield 5th Team at home this weekend. Kirsty Goddard took the Slazenger side in front with a superb goal in the first half. Hopeful for the win, Slazenger worked tirelessly to keep Wakefield at bay with great performances from keeper, Charlotte Richardson and Rebecca Green and Sophie Longford. The Team also welcomed two new players – Mary Burgess and Becky Wade. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and 10 minutes before the end, Wakefield equalised. Still a good result for the 4th Team, 1:1.
