Ladies 2nds (0) vs. (1) Leeds Adel 3rd’s
Today was the start of the new season with Slazenger 2s playing Adel. We started well with attacking flare and spread the ball around, however, we just seemed to lack the killer finish. Adel came back into the game at the end of the first half, and put Slaz under serious pressure.
The second half started much the same as the first, with Slaz picking up the pace, though, Adel responded quickly and put considerable pressure back on the Slazenger defence. They won several short corners, which felt never ending to mids running back, but the defence dealt with it very well. However, following the third consecutive short corner, Adel responded quickly to the fantastic save by the keeper, and slotted the rebound ball neatly home.
This lit a fire under Slaz, who in turn had a sustained period of pressure, having several shots and hitting the post twice. Unfortunately, although there was some fantastic interplay, Adel just had the edge on the day and took the three points. Final score 1-0 to Adel.
Ladies 3rd’s (4) vs, Wakefield 5th’s
Slazenger 3’s kicked off the season with an impressive display of field hockey, securing a resounding 4-0 victory against a talented but youthful Wakefield 5’s squad. The game began with an early goal in the first half, showcasing Slazenger’s cohesive teamwork. Their experienced defence thwarted Wakefield’s persistent attacks, maintaining a steadfast shield around their goal with defender Thea fitting in seamlessly.
Following a motivating team talk, Slazenger emerged for the second half with renewed determination. Displaying remarkable vigor, they swiftly netted two consecutive goals, establishing a commanding lead. A final goal sealed their win, leaving Wakefield unable to breach Slazenger’s formidable defence and goalie.
The goal scorers for Slazenger were Maisie, who scored two goals, Mia, who contributed one, and Evie, who also found the back of the net. Despite the scoreline, Wakefield never relented, launching fierce attacks throughout the match. However, their efforts were in vain as Slazenger’s resolute defense proved impenetrable.
Overall, it was a strong performance by Slazenger 3’s, signalling a positive start and demonstrating their potential for success this season.
Ladies 4th’s (5) vs. Huddersfield Dragons 3rd’s
Slazenger’s Ladies 4th Team have had a great start to the season with a 5-0 victory, playing away, against Huddersfield Dragons 3rd Team.
Slazenger’s got off to a strong start, immediately on the attack and within 10 minutes, Francesca Chromiakova netted the teams first goal. Keeper, Charlotte Richardson, kept the Dragons at bay and a solid midfield ensured Slazengers forwards were kept busy. Rebecca Green, new junior, worked tirelessly feeding the ball in and Mandy Greenwood, who has recently returned to the club, took advantage of this, scoring Slazengers second goal.
2-0 up at halftime, the Ladies 4’s couldn’t contain their excitement at the possibility of a win and returned to the pitch with confidence. Emma Hammond, vice captain, was ruthless in her per suit of a goal but it was Gemma Wroe who scored the next two goals in quick succession. A final goal from Mandy Greenwood and Slazenger left the pitch victorious. Well deserved player vote went to Rebecca Green. Less well deserved tart – Julie Bailey!
Mens 4th’s (0) vs. (1) Huddersfield Dragons 4th’s
A strong defensive display led to a quiet afternoon for the 4s keeper and there were plenty of chances created at the other end. Attack after attack could not be capitalised on though as Slaz couldn’t beat the opposition keeper however a counter attack put Huddersfield 1 up late in the game against the run of play. Result 1-0 loss at Huddersfield.
