Slazengers 12 Hour Charity Sportathon

65 years ago this year, Slazenger’s Sports Club was opened. To celebrate the start of the season, we are running a “Sportathon”; a 12 hour hockey game, on Saturday 12th September with celebrations after, all raising money for Cancer Research.

A lot of our Members have been affected one way or another by this terrible disease and this is our opportunity to help beat it, with an aim of raising £15,000. This really is a great charity to support as a Club during our 65th Anniversary celebrations.

How Will it Work?

The format for the day is a 12 hour hockey match which we hope everyone (current and past players of all ages) will take part! There will be food throughout the day, as well as pitchside DJ.

  • 07:30-09:00 – The “early risers XI” vs. “Birketts’ press ganged XI”
  • 09:00-12:00 – Junior Section
  • 12:00-15:00 – Ladies Section
  • 15:00-18:00 – Mens Section
  • 18:00-19:30 – Mixed Past vs. Current players
  • 19:30- Late – 65th Anniversary Party with Band, Food and Charity Auction.

How Do You Get Involved?

Get involved with the hockey – there’s 12 hours of it and we need you! Please contact:

  • Geoff Birkett for the first or last matches;
  • Ian Hedges (or your team manager) for the junior section;
  • Justine Birkett for ladies section;
  • Team Captains for the mens section;
  • Steve Wood to help with umpiring.

How Are We Raising Money?

Get sponsored! Download the sponsorship form and start collecting! Alternatively, join the team on Justgiving to do it online! Text donations can also be made by texting SLAZ65 plus an amount to 70070. To take part in the Hockey, there will also be a £5 match fee.

After the hockey, get down to the clubhouse. There will be a live band, charity auction with some great prizes. Tickets for the evening are £10 each and include food. They are available from behind the bar or from Mat Birkett. Money from the evening will also by going to Cancer Research.
