Casino Night
A night of “fun” gambling is to take place at the Slazenger Sports Club on Saturday 26th March. Just £5.00 gets you in, some supper and your “chips” for the evening. Prizes for the biggest winners on the night. The event is in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and is open to our oldest juniors and all adults whether club members or not.
Presentation Day & BBQ
We will be holding what has become one of the highlights of our social calendar on 22nd May at the club. The format will be the same as in previous years. 10am till noon “Parents v Kids” followed by a BBQ and presentation’s to all age groups. It is important that we know numbers in advance for catering. Tickets are available at training and from coaches on match days, 4.50 Adults & 2.50 for Children. Alternatively complete and send off the slip below with your payment. Ticket price also includes entry into the raffle (for which prizes would also be gratefully received).
Could all winners of last year’s trophies please make arrangements to return them before the end of the season.
Player of the Year
Please ensure you give your vote to your team manager. You can only vote for ONE person in your actual age group, and you must not vote for yourself. The person you nominate should be the player who you feel has given the most to the TEAM this season at training and when playing in matches not just someone who is your friend.
Help Wanted
For your junior section to be able to grow it needs volunteers who can commit their time to help, be it at training, as team secretaries, or at social events. No experience is necessary to be able to give worthwhile support. Training courses are available to anyone who wants to become more involved. Please contact Steve Wood (07802 235805). stevewood17@googlemail.com
Recruitment drive
We have seen fewer of the “younger end” (U12’s) attending Slazenger Juniors this year, therefore whilst we welcome new members of all ages we would partially like to encourage increased membership from school year 6 and below (especially girls). Please spread the word to all you know that may be interested.
In addition one initiative we are pursuing is the possibility of a number of summer “open” dates where anyone, whether friends of current members or not, can come alone and “have a go” FOC. Of course current members will also be welcome.
Pitchside Advertising
In approximately 5 years, the Sports Club is looking to replace the Astroturf carpet as it will be over 15 years old. Since this is going to be a large expensive, the Club is to start raising funds now. One method is by selling pitch side advertising. The aim is to sell 8ft x 3 ft pitch side advertising space for a 6 or 12 month period, final costs to be agreed but expected to be around £200. The cost of manufacture and installation of the banners will be covered in the price, and the remaining money will go into a fund for the new pitch. The final OK is needed from the Sports Club Committee at the end of March, but we would like to get the ball moving as soon as possible. We are especially interested in getting local businesses involved, so if you work for a business, or own one that would be interested in supporting the club could you please contact ianhedges@gmail.com, and he will send you more details.
