The Hibernation is over…for the time being
It seems like an age since we were all on the Hockey Pitch thanks to the coldest December since the mid seventeenth century!
We now looked forward to this coming weekend when boots will be dusted off and hockey sticks cleaned ready for action…ok that’s the first New Years resolution broken!
Please keep in touch with your team captains for details of the weekend and for our juniors please ensure your team managers are aware of your availability if you are due to be playing YYHL or JDC on Sunday.
Otherwise, training is back to norm. 9.15 for the under 12’s and 10.15 all other ages. I am sure there are many new hockey gifts that we are looking forward to seeing.
Senior training is also back to normal and at the same times pre the ice age.
The 10 day forecast suggests that it could be damp over the weekend so please come prepared.
HOCKEY CANCELLED
Fairly obvious however as many will gather there is still a foot of snow on the Hockey Pitch. Therefore…………Hockey this weekend will be cancelled! FOR ALL!
Please keep in touch with our website for regular updates.
For the hardy, beers are being participated on Saturday afternoon 4pm onwards…see you there!
Level 1 Umpires Course
Afternoon guys,
I am going to organise another umpires course hopefully at Slazenger’s within the next few months. The last one went down well and 4 of the 10 people have gone on to become qualified with another 2 awaiting their assessment doing.
As you all know, getting umpires is a hard enough job and getting qualified ones is even harder!!
Please could you all forward this email to anyone who may be interested in doing the course!
It will be 3 Monday evenings, usually between 7 and 9 with a written exam on the last night. The course is £35 (was last year) and you will get a rule book, cards, whistle etc.
I need a minimum of 10 people who are willing to do the course, if I get more than 20, I will arrange for 2 courses to be run.
I am happy for people from other clubs to attend also, Slaz people will get priority though!!
Can you ask people to either call or text me on 07775558659 or email me their details. I need a name, team they play in and contact number
Thank you!!

National Family Sports Day – June 5th 2010
What a tremendous effort – a very big WELL DONE!
Can I start by firstly saying what a big club we have at Slazenger Hockey Club! The effort shown yesterday by all our club members was absolutely tremendous. A big thank you to everyone that attended and supported the day, we couldn’t have done it or made it such a success without your help.
Particular thanks to Will Buckley for the use of the Flat Back Van and his trusty aids, John Sykes, Rob and Jez Whawell for getting up at the crack of dawn to help lay our pitch area out.
Special thanks also to Sarah Cooper who simply hypnotised legions of passers- by to ‘Have a go at Hockey’
Everyone played their part.
Big impressions were made not only to other exhibitors but also to the organisers who made a special visit to congratulate the club. General comments were that it was excellent to see that a good cross section of the club, all wearing their team shirts, were putting on what clearly looked like one of the big hits of the day.
Shortly I will have most of the photo’s from the day on the website for viewing. Please take a look.
