History

The Slazenger Hockey Club was formed in 1950 as part of the Slazenger Sports and Social Club established for workers of the local Slazenger Sports Company factory.

The club was originally composed of a Ladies and Mixed side, which competed against other local works teams including the Pilkington Glass factory team, and ICI Chemicals’ team in Huddersfield. At the time, the club had 2 pitches which were part of the Southfield’s Estate which formed the home grounds of the Slazenger Social Club’s teams.

In the mid 1980′s, the sports club became an independent venue, with the hockey club being one of the constituent clubs managing the facility.

These pitches stayed in place until 1995. At this point, a major investment from Sport England and the sports club resulted the installation of a sand filled flood-lit synthetic pitch.

Since this time, the club has grown in size to 4 mens teams, 3 ladies, a mixed squad. Along with this is a significant summer league involvement and a large, growing junior section

The club has gone from strength to strength over the last 60 years, and now boasts over 150 regular players, split between senior and junior sections.
