Well, as quick as October came around, as has November (or should that be Movember?). The first social of the season is done and the league is well under way. This month 4 teams face off in Cup semi-finals, in addition to the ongoing league games. Can the ladies 2nds maintain their undefeated run? Will teams get to the cup finals? All exciting stuff….
|The first social of the season was hosted at the club at the end of last month – the Halloween social event. It was a great night and there was some pretty great fancy dress going on… If you missed out, don’t worry – details of the next social are below.|
Mark your callender for 17th December 2011. As has been tradition for many a year, the club (will attempt to) hold the annual sevens tournament. For the last two years this has been snowed off, but 2011 will be different(we hope). Its a chance to play some mixed hockey and have a bit of fun before Christmas. As usual, all senior players are welcome to play. More details will come closer to the time.
The club colours have been standardised for a long time, (avaliable here for those unsure). We understand that some people will buy kit of the matching colour outside of the club.
However, we realise that people may also want to get hold of some good quality playing kit through the club. Have no fear, such a wish is now granted! In addition to supplying team shirts, the club is selling shorts, skorts, socks, raincoats and new warm hoodies – perfect for the winter weather.
Simply download this SHC Kit order form, complete it and submit it with payment, and it will be taken care of.
Registration & Subs
Tony, our illustrius treasurer will be checking the records this month and working out who hasn’t registered or paid their subs. Be warned….
Registration is a simple form which needs to be filled in. It can be done online, which is automatically emailed to Tony (using the big button below), or if you dont trust “them internets” there is a printable form at this link which can be handed in to your team captain/ coach. Payment should be through cheque made out to “Slazenger Hockey club”, cash, or standing order (details are here). However, if you are using standing order, the first payment must be made ASAP.
For those in the know, Movember is upon us. Men across the globe have dedicated this month to growing a moustache in order to raise awareness and funds for mens health, specifically specifically prostate and testicular cancer. Our very own Mens’ Chairman, James “Moog” Walker is donating his top lip to this worthy cause.
The money raised is channeled through the Movember Foundation to The Prostate Cancer Charity and the Institute of Cancer Research, funding world class awareness, research, educational and support programs which would otherwise not be possible. If you can, please donate to Moogs efforts at here, where you can also find out more information about the organisation and the cause.
Slazenger’s match fixture calenders are below for downloading. If you use a calender program on your computer, the top row of links will download the calender, for use with whatever program is in use (ICal, MS Outlook, Lotus Notes, etc). For users of Google’s online Calender app, the bottom link should import the calender to your account. Please note that if the master calender is updated online, changes may not be reflected in your version.

Slazenger to Host Junior Hockey Tournament
Due to a venue problem, Slazenger has agreed to help out the Yorkshire Youth Hockey League and host the Girls U14 tournament on Sunday 20th November 2011 from 11am – 2pm.
This unfortunately means the second training session 10:30-12:00 will be cancelled. Can all Juniors not competing with U16 Boys or U14 Girls please attend the earlier session (9:30-10:30), or alternatively, the Monday night advanced Juniors coaching session will be run as usual.
As this is the only time the Girls U14’s are playing at home, please come down to support the team if you can.
The specialised goalie training has been a great success, and is planned to continue on the first Sunday of every month (12 noon to 1pm). This is open to all club keepers not just juniors.

October in Review
It has been a month of mixed fortunes for the mens section. Unfortunately 1st team’s unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Normanby Park, but are still flying high. The 2’s have has a couple of tough encounters, including the 6-5 victory over Leeds Uni side involving 2 yellow cards and 1 red. The mens 3rd’s also suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of table topping Lincoln 3rd’s, though have 2 wins, 3 draws, and join the 1’s and 2’s in cup playoffs this month.
In the ladies section, the 1sts log their first victory in the North League, followed by their first big loss and a draw to strong contender Newcastle Uni 1st’s. The Ladies 2’s are in a dominant position in division 4 sitting pretty in second, still undefeated with the largest goal tally in the league! Ladies 3’s continue a decent run of form, with some strong performances against stronger oppositions, including a 5-4 victory over Pickering.
The junior teams are playing well, with continued success from the young boys U10’s, and an assured performance by the boys U14’s. The Boys U16’s had a rough ride at Pocklington, but have an opportunity to fight back this coming month. In other news the girls are now fielding 2 U10 teams, showing a promising future for the section.
